Who is Dr. J?

Dr. Jessica Rowland Williams serves as Senior Advisor for Strategic Initiatives and External Relations at the National Institute for Student Success (NISS) at Georgia State University. In this role, she supports strategic initiatives, partnerships, and external engagement that help colleges and universities strengthen student success and improve institutional outcomes.

Previously, Jessica served as Senior Director of Client Service Delivery at NISS, where she oversaw consulting and implementation services for partner institutions and led a team of program advisors working directly with colleges and universities to advance effective student success strategies.

Jessica has also held national leadership roles in higher education innovation. She served as Director of Every Learner Everywhere, a network of organizations working to help institutions improve teaching and learning through the thoughtful use of technology. Earlier in her career, she was Project Director for the Completion Grant Initiative at the University Innovation Alliance and served as Project Director in Georgia State University’s Office of the Senior Vice President for Student Success.

Jessica earned her bachelor’s degree in Biology from Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, and received both her M.A. and Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Princeton University. While at Princeton, she served for four years as a Diversity Fellow in the Office of Academic Affairs and Diversity and received the Patrice Y. Johnson ’80 Memorial Service Award from the Association of Black Princeton Alumni in recognition of her leadership and service.

Throughout her career, Jessica has worked with colleges and universities to strengthen institutional practices and improve outcomes for students.
